The Lady Pioneers Drop MEC Opener to the Senators 3-1

Box Score Glenville State's Women's Volleyball program fell to the Davis and Elkins Senators 3-1 in the Mountain East Conference opener. The Pioneer's record now drops to 11-6 and 0-1 in conference play.

In the first set, Glenville trailed early on 3-0. After tailing early the Lady Pioneers tied the frame at 6-6. The Pioneers would pull away in the first set with a 9-2 run taking a 17-12 lead. A kill by Katarzyna sparked Glenville's run. Towards the end of the frame, the Lady Pioneers extended their lead to seven putting the set in reach. However, Davis Elkins battled late and tested the Pioneers late led. The Senators brought the frame back to within two points. Freshman Rita Kelly produced a kill late for the Pioneers to take the set late 25-22.

Davis and Elkins would go on to take the next set from Glenville 25-15. Both squads continued to battle from the first set. The Pioneers started the set with a 9-6 lead, but two incredible runs helped the Senators pull away. A kill by Katie Beth Caudill sparked Davis and Elkins's first run resulting in six straight points. The Senators on their next run would take 12 out of the next 15 points to seal the set. 

In the third set, the Pioneers continued to battle Davis and Elkins. Both teams could not create separation until halfway through the frame. With the Lady Pioneers only down one point, A kill by Katarzyna Niderla created a much-needed run for Glenville. The Pioneers would take six straight points to lead the set 15-11.  Once again the Senators found a way to tie the frame at 15 all. While the Lady Pioneers continued to fight, Davis and Elkins would take the last three points to take the set and lead the match 2-1.

After taking the first point in the fourth set, the Pioneers trailed the frame all the way until the end. The Senators had led 19-13 until Glenville manufactured six straight points. The Pioneers took advantage of two straight errors to gain the momentum late taking the lead 24-23.  Davis and Elkins answered Glenville's run eventually regaining the lead 26-25. Both squads continued to battle until the Senators would take the last three points winning the final set and match.

Katarzyna Niderla led the Pioneers in kills with 14 followed by Rita Kelly with eight. Sydney Goodrich produced five service aces and seven kills. Junior Helín Halden led Glenville defensively with 13 digs followed by Zoe Schmidt with nine.
