Glenville State University's Football team is set to face the Wheeling University Cardinals this Saturday. The Pioneers enter with a 2-1 record and the Cardinals also enter with a 2-1 record. This will be the third matchup between these two programs since Wheeling's inaugural 2019 season.
Wheeling University enters the game with a 1-1 Mountain East Conference Record. The Cardinals are coached by Zac Bruney. Since the inception of the program, Bruney's program has gone 16-18. In last week's matchup against the Battlers of Alderson and Broaddus, the Cardinals scored 56 points and accumulated 364 yards in the air with another 223 on the ground. Javon Davis produced 364 passing yards and three touchdowns on 37 attempts. Wheeling's ground attack was led by Sy Alli IV with 132 rushing yards and three touchdowns followed by Elijah Young with 89 yards. Lowell Parron led the team in receiving yards with 172 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Zo Pearson and Aj Haythe Jr. led Wheeling in tackles last week. Matthew Greenwo produced two tackles for loss and a sack for the Cardinals.
The Pioneers are coming off a historic win over UNC Pembroke. Last Saturday marked the program's first win over the Braves. With three games under Glenville's belt, the Pioneers are averaging 502 yards of offense a game ranking them 6th in the nation The passing game is led by quarterback
Jeff Miller. Miller this season has produced 746 passing yards and eight touchdowns. Junior
Javian Bellamy statistically leads Glenville's receiving core with 177 yards and two touchdowns.
Orion Bonner is close behind Bellamy with 175 yards. Freshman
Tariq Miller from Carolina, W.Va. has been a great addition for the Pioneers. Miller has produced 121 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Glenville's rushing attack has been solid this year with Menjor Alfred,
Zakee Swann, and
Saeed Galloway. All three have had games over 100 or 75 rushing yards. Defensively last week the Pioneers only allowed 285 yards.
Brandon Penn led Glenville with eight tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. Junior
Seth Arnold and Sophomore
Sean Bowers produced six tackles.
