GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State two-time All-American wrestler
Nick Johnson has joined the Pioneer football team for the 2026 season and is practicing during the spring under first-year head coach
Jake Casteel.
The back-to-back All-American was a national runner-up for Dylan Cottrell's top 10 wrestling program just a month ago at 197 pounds. Johnson, who played football and wrestled at Parkersburg High School, joins Casteel's squad as a linebacker. "Obviously with the physicality, he's already there. He knows and understands leverage, he hits and he plays hard," said Casteel on The
Jake Casteel Show.
Johnson will now add football into the already busy mix he shuffles, as Director of Athletics
Jesse Skiles wrote about last month that the Parkersburg, W.Va. native is already handling school, wrestling and serving in the United States Marines. That service is something Coach Casteel feels confident is allowing Johnson to be more than just another addition to the roster.
"(With) his background in the Marines... He's a good example for our team. A guy that's been through way worse than what they've been through and I know he's a guy who's going to help us."
Johnson and the Pioneers will wrap up spring football this Saturday (Apr. 25) in the annual Blue vs. White Spring game at the Morris Family Health & Fitness Complex at 1 p.m.
