GSU Women’s Volleyball Back on the Road at West Virginia State

Glenville State's Women's Volleyball team ends their two-game road stretch at West Virginia State this Friday. This will be the second matchup between these two squads. In the first match, the Pioneers lost to West Virginia State 3-1. Until the last match-up, Glenville had not taken a set against the Yellow Jackets in over three years.

West Virginia State enters Friday night's contest with a 14-1 record overall and 1-0 in the Mountain East Conference. Kris Kern enters his sixth year as the head coach of the Yellow Jackets. Under Kern's direction, West Virginia State has only lost two MEC conference games. Junior Diamond'Nique Young leads the Yellow Jackets in kills this season with 164 followed by Kiersten Eggleton with 116. Setter Peri Martin has produced 214 assists with Eggleton behind her manufacturing 189 assists. Defensively, Darby Alex leads West Virginia State in digs with 173 this season ranking her ninth in the MEC.

Coach Kevin John's program is coming off a tough MEC loss to Davis & Elkins. As a team, the Pioneers are ranked number one in the MEC in team service aces. The Lady Pioneers are also ranked 15th nationally in team kills. Katarzyna Niderla leads Glenville in kills with 205 and 36 service aces. Nationally Niderla ranks 14th in kills and third in service aces this season. Junior setter Julia King has produced 290 assists for the Pioneers and is ranked ninth in the Mountain East Conference. Defensively. Lindsay Winkler leads the team in digs with 208 followed by Junior Zoe Schmidt with 138.
