Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

The Lady Pioneers Fall to West Virginia State 3-0 Ending MEC Road Trip

Institute, W.Va. - Glenville State's Women's Volleyball team continued Mountain East Conference play on the road at West Virginia State. The Pioneers fell to the Yellow Jackets 3-0. The Lady Pioneers are now 11-7 on the season with a conference record of 0-2.

In the first set, errors would be the enemy of the Lady Pioneers allowing West Virginia State to take the frame 25-4. Glenville committed a total of 13 errors during the set. The Yellow Jackets also made a fair amount of errors in the stanza. Consecutive six-point runs by West Virginia State made it difficult for the Pioneers to fight back.

Glenville in the second set challenged the Yellow Jackets but would fall short losing the set 25-20. Both squads fought hard to gain the early advantage but the Pioneers gained the edge. After leading the frame early 11-9, the Lady Pioneers produced a stretch where they would take seven out of the nest eight points extending their lead to 17-10. A kill by Sydney Goodrich sparked Glenville's run halfway through the set. West Virginia State tied the frame at 20-20 going on a 13-2 run. The Yellow Jackets continued their impressive scratch by taking next five points winning the set 25-20.

In the third and final set, West Virginia State carried the momentum from the previous set. The Yellow Jackets started the set taking an 11-1 lead. The Lady Pioneers continued to fight late into the match. After trailing 20-4, the Pioneers took five straight points from West Virginia State. However, the Yellow Jackets would close out the set winning 25-13 and taking the match 3-0.

Katarzyna Niderla and Talyin Johnson led Glenville in kills with four. Senior defensive specialist Lindsay Winkler produced three aces for the Pioneers and lead the Lady Pioneers in digs with eight. Zoe Schmidt and Sydney Goodrich ended the match with four digs.

The Pioneers will be back in action this Tuesday hosting the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats.
