The Lady Pioneers Drop Close Conference Match to The Golden Eagles

Box Score Charleston, W.Va. - Glenville State's Women's Soccer team continued Mountain East Conference play against the University of Charleston Golden Eagles. The Lady Pioneers battled but fell short to the Golden Eagles 3-2. Tori Cutright scored Glenville's first goal of the season.

In the opening minutes of the match, both squads tried to create separation but would be unsuccessful due to being offside.  The first shot of the match finally came in the 13th minute. University of Charleston's Sydney Cavender created the first shot but missed high. On the Lady Pioneers' first shot of the match, Tori Cutright found the back of the net giving Glenville the lead 1-0. Cutright's goal in the 29th minute would be her first of the season and the Lady Pioneers' first goal of the 2022 campaign. After taking the lead Graylin Floyd created another chance for the Pioneers but the Golden Eagles made the save. In the 37th minute of the match, Charleston's Sydney Cavender scored the equalizer.

The University of Charleston opened the half taking the lead in the 52nd minute. Cavender would find the back of the net for the second time of the match making it 2-1. The Lady Pioneers continued to create chances to tie the match back up. Alyssa West, Merel Smets, and Tori Cutright continue to test the Golden Eagles' keeper. Charleston's Sydney Cavender scored once more in the 84th minute picking up her third goal of the day. After trailing 3-1, an own goal by the Golen Eagles would bring the Pioneers back into the match. The Lady Pioneers would run out of time to tie the match falling short to the University of Charleston 3-2.

Tori Cutright lead the Pioneers in shots with three and produced a goal. Both Merel Smets and Graylin Floyd finished the match with a shot on goal. Leah Williams was in goal for the Pioneers and made seven saves.

The Pioneers will be back in action this Wednesday against West Virginia State at 7:00 PM.
