Lady Pioneers Host West Virginia State in MEC Clash

Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville State's Women's Soccer program is back in action hosting the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets. This will be the second matchup between these two squads in Mountain East Conference Play. In the previous matchup, West Virginia State defeated the Pioneers 4-0.

A Look at West Virginia State

West Virginia State enters the contest with a (7-0-1) record overall and a (5-0-1) in MEC play. The Yellow Jackets are coming off a 1-1 tie with Concord University. Offensively, Fran Soares-Cupertino leads West Virginia State. Soares-Cupertino has produced a team-high ten goals and five assists this season which is number one in the MEC in both statistical categories.
Esther Dhiramo has also been a key contributor with six goals and four assists during the 2022 campaign. Defensively, Laura Galindo has been the anchor in goal for the Yellow Jackets. Through eight games, Galindo has made 27 saves and posted a shutout earning a 77% save percentage.

The Lady Pioneers

Glenville State enters the match with a (0-8) record overall. The Lady Pioneers are coming off a close defeat to the University of Charleston 3-2. For the Pioneers, the match provided a lot of firsts for the young team. Tori Cutiright and Mackenzie Hendricks scored their first goals of the season and Leah Williams made her first start in goal for the Pioneers. Cutright played the entire match creating a total of three chances for Glenville. Hendricks played 54 minutes of the match proving to be a great spark off the bench for the Lady Pioneers. Hendricks's goal in the 87th minute would bring the Pioneers back to within one goal. In her first career start in goal for the Lady Pioneers Williams produced seven saves.
