Lady Pioneers Drop MEC Match Against West Virginia State

Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville State's Women's Soccer team fell in the midweek Mountain East Conference match to the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets 6-0. The Lady Pioneers were outshot in the match 24-5.

In the first half, both squads battled for the early lead. The first shot of the match would not happen until the fifth minute. West Virginia State's Brooklyn Pritt created the chance, but Mikayla Brown was there to make the save. Tori Cutright created the first chance for the Lady Pioneers in the 14th minute. Glenville produced two more shots in the half. Destiny Navarrete's chance would be saved by the Yellow Jackets keeper along with Ivy White's shot. Towards the end of the half in the 43rd minute, West Virginia State found the back of the net. Fran Soares-Cupertino took advantage of the penalty kick.

Both West Virginia State and Glenville State continued to produce chances at the start of the second half. Merel Smets and Freshman Graylin Floyd created shots in the 52nd and 54th minutes. Mikayla Brown continued to make saves for the Lady Pioneers. West Virginia State would score again in the 68th minute. The Yellow Jackets produced four goals in the half coming at the 71st, 74th, 85th, and 90th minutes of the match. Fran Soares-Cupertino finished the match with a hat-trick.

Mikayla Brown led the Pioneers and the match tonight with six saves. Hannah Hill, Jordyn Dansby-Ross, Merel Smets, Marli Butterfield, and Tori Cutright played the entire match for Glenville.
