GSU Volleyball Continues Home MEC Stretch Against The University of Charleston

Glenville, W.Va. - The Lady Pioneers continue Mountain East Conference play here inside the Waco Center hosting the University of Charleston Golden Eagles. The Pioneers under Head Coach Kevin John enter the match with a (12-7) record overall and (1-2) in the MEC.

The University of Charleston enters Friday's contest with a (16-2) record overall and (3-0) in MEC play. Head Coach Tyler Kanelos enters his second season under the helm. Under his direction, the Golen Eagles are currently on a ten-match win streak. The University of Charleston offensively is led by Sage Bearnson. Bearnson this season has produced a team-high 212 kills followed by Senior Damon McKenzie with 199. Morgan Walter leads the Golen Eagles in service aces with 30. Pia Selke is close behind with 25 this season. Defensively as a team, The University of Charleston leads the MEC in team digs averaging 18.5 per set. Erin Carmody and Damon McKenzie have been key contributors to the team's success.

Glenville is coming off of a win over the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats 3-2. As a team, the Lady Pioneers are ranked number one in the nation in total service aces. Katarzyna Niderla and Helín Halden lead Glenville in service aces. Niderla has produced 37 aces this season which is fifth in the nation and number one in the MEC. Halden is close behind with 33 aces ranking her third in the MEC. Along with leading the Pioneers in service aces, Niderla also has a team-high in kills with 223. Lindsay Winkler, Katarzyna Niderla, and Nalaina Funk have been anchors defensively for Glenville this season. Winkler has produced 225 digs this season followed by transfer Zoe Schmidt with 152. Niderla and Funk have both manufactured over 50 blocks for the Lady Pioneers this season.
