The Pioneers Split Day Two of Bald Eagle Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Pioneers split the second day falling to D'Youville 2-3 and defeating Lock haven 3-0. Glenville finishes the weekend 3-1 improving their record to 6-3 on the season.

Match One

The Lady Pioneers and the Saints of D'Youville traded blows until halfway through the first set. D'Youville created separation from Glenville taking six out of the next seven points to lead the frame 18-12. The Pioneers answered the Saints attack with a run of their own to make it a two-point set. A kill by Lauryn O'Lenic sparked five straight points for the Lady Pioneers. However, the separation created by D'Youville proved to be too much for Glenville to overcome. D'Youville would take the set 25-21.

After the first set, Glenville captured the next two sets of the match. The Lady Pioneers trailed early in the second set 10-4. Glenville answered the slow start with a dominant stretch taking 14 of the next 17 points. Junior Katrayna Niderla produced three straight kills that sparked the impressive run by the Pioneers giving Glenville the lead 21-15. The Lady Pioneers continued to apply pressure to the Saints taking the set 25-20. Glenville opened the third set 8-3 taking advantage of three straight errors committed by D'Youville. Both squads matched each other's runs until the end of the match.  The Lady Pioneers were able to take four out of the last five points to win the set 25-23

The Pioneers dropped the fourth set to D'Youville 25-23. The Lady Pioneers started the fourth set down 4-1 but fought back taking a three-point lead 9-6. There would be a total of five lead changes in the fourth set.  D'Youville created separation late in the match pulling away to take the fourth set tying the match 25-23

In the decisive fifth set, the Saints scored eight straight points to take a commanding 13-7 lead. Glenville continued to fight back from the impressive D'Youville run but, the Saints managed to close the match 15-11

Katarzyna Niderla produced a season-high 20 kills followed by Rita Kelly with 12. Junior Julia King finished the match with 26 assists followed by Sarah Grainger with 17. Both Lindsay Winkler and Sydney Goodrich lead the Pioneers in digs with 17.  

Match Two

The Lady Pioneers trailed in the first set early on 8-4. Glenville continued to trail by four, until an attacking error by Lock Haven sparked a stretch of ten straight points for the Pioneers. The Lady Pioneers rode the momentum from the impressive run and take the first set 25-16. In the second set, Glenville started the frame with a 4-1 lead and would not look back. The Lady Pioneers lead the entire second set. Halfway through the second frame, Glenville gained the separation needed to win the set. A kill by Katarzyna Niderla sparked the Pioneers to grow their lead. 

In the third set Glenville once again, started with an early lead. However, Lock Haven answered any run made by the Pioneers. The Bald Eagles never took the lead in the third set but tied or brought the frame to within one-point multiple times. The Lady Pioneers scored six of the last nine points of the match to win the set 25-21 and the match 3-0. Kills by Katarzyna Niderla and Rita Kelly provided the momentum Glenville needed to pull away late.

Helín Halden led the team in digs with nine followed by Lindsay Winkler with seven. Katarzyna Niderla produced 17 kills and three aces for the Pioneers. Sarah Granger would also produce three aces.
