The Lady Pioneers Continue Their Winning Ways Defeating D&E 94-60

ELKINS W.Va. - Glenville State Women's Basketball team defeated the Senators of Davis and Elkins College 94-60. The Lady Pioneers forced a season-high 41 turnovers in the winning effort. Glenville State's nine three-pointers in the first half helped GSU take a commanding first-half lead

Glenville State started off tonight's contest missing their first two attempts from three. In the opening minutes, the Senators took advantage of the Lady Pioneers' cold start. D&E struck first with a Marrisa Berlin layup. At the 7:04 mark, Davis & Elkins jumped out to an 11-4 lead with a fast break three by Taylor Smith. During the first five minutes, Mo Pruitt got Glenville's offense going. Heading into the final five minutes of the first quarter GSU erased the Senator's lead down to one.

After only hitting one three-pointer in the first five minutes the Lady Pioneers found their rhythm from three towards the end of the quarter. In the waning minutes of the opening quarter, GSU hit five threes. With Glenville hitting shots the Lady Pioneers were able to close the quarter on a 17-4 run taking the lead 27-15.

Glenville State continued to fire on all cylinders in the second quarter. While GSU shot 36.8% from the field in the second, the press started to wear down the Senators. In the first two quarters of action, D&E committed 17 turnovers. Breanna Campbell help extend the Lady Pioneer's advantage. Just in the second quarter alone the Junior from Largo, Fla. produced seven points. Before the under-five media timeout, GSU led by 26 points 45-19.

Before heading into the half both offenses started to come to a halt. The Lady Pioneers' hot shooting from the first 15 minutes of play began to turn cold, but Glenville would hold the Senators to 28.6% shooting from the field in the second quarter. A drive to the basket by Breanna Campbell put Taylor Smith D&E's top scorer into foul trouble before heading into the half. Campbell's pair of free throws would be the last points of the half. GSU entered halftime with the lead 50-27.

In the third quarter, both squads were unable to create any separation from each other.  Glenville State would shoot 68% in the third, but the ample amount of turnovers committed by the Lady Pioneers stopped any run from developing. However, Coach Stephen's press still was influential throughout the remainder of the contest. GSU forced a season-high 41 turnovers. A layup by Chalon Miles before the buzzer put the Lady Pioneers up by 24.

Glenville State continued to grow its advantage in the fourth quarter. Turnovers continued to plague the Senators but in the first five minutes, D&E shrunk GSU's advantage down to 20. Coming out of the under-five media timeout the Lady Pioneers closed out the game on a 13-4 run. After Cabria Lewis hit a jumper with 2:02 left both offenses would go quiet. With both teams hitting a cold spell the Lady Pioneers came out on top 94-60.

Mickayla Perdue led Glenville in scoring and finished with a game-high 21 points. Junior Cabria Lewis was close behind Perdue with 17 points. Lewis finished the contest 5-8 from three and grabbed four rebounds. Mo Pruitt and Aline Fevrier both finished the game with a team-high eight rebounds.
