No. 5 Lady Pioneers Pick Up Another Conference Road Win Defeating AB 104-74

Philippi, W.Va. - Glenville State Women's Basketball team defeated the Battlers of Alderson Broaddus to pick up anther conference road win. The Lady Pioneers had one of their best shooting nights from beyond the arc shooting 45.2%.Both in the second an third quarter GSU hit five threes. With Alderson Broaddus committing 23 turnovers Glenville State was able to get out in transition for easy looks.

Glenville State started off the contest sluggish missing shots and committing turnovers. The Battlers started off the game on an 8-1 run. With GSU committing turnovers Alderson Broaddus was able to get easy looks out in transition. The Lady Pioneers at the 5:41 mark started to find their rhythm on the offensive end. Kamiyah Lyons sparked a 7-2 run before the under-five media timeout.  

Right before the first stoppage of play Skylar Davidson drew contact and got to the free-throw line. Davidson converted both free throws to tie up the game 10-10. Both squads in the remaining minutes of the first quarter traded buckets with neither team gaining any advantage. While Glenville State took their first lead of the contest at 2:03, Mickayla Perdue helped the Lady Pioneers take control of the game. In the last minute, Perdue produced five points for GSU giving them the lead at the end of the first quarter.

Glenville State throughout the second quarter continued to build upon its lead. While the Lady Pioneers did not have dominant stretches of the play the deep ball was falling. Just in the second quarter alone, Glenville hit a total of five threes on 55.6% shooting. Mickayla Perdue continued to produce but Dream Cherry and Kamiyah Lyons started to hit shots as well. Both Cherry and Lyons scored nine points in the first two quarters. Another quick burst at the end of the quarter put the Lady Pioneers up 15 before heading into the half.

Coming out of the half Glenville State was firing on all cylinders almost doubling their total points from the opening two quarters. In the third quarter the Lady Pioneers shot 57.1% from the field and 66.7% from deep. Throughout the first four minutes of the third the Battlers were able to keep up with GSU's scoring. However after the under five media timeout 22-1 run by Glenville State put the game in control of the Lady Pioneers. During the run Breanna Campbell and Mickayla Perdue went off and produced 18 points.

At the start of the final quarter of play Coach Stephens's squad had the advantage 82-48. Glenville State continued to shoot and execute well on the offensive end but the Battlers shot over 50% from the field in the fourth.  Alderson Broaddus also shot 40% from beyind the arc and only missed one free throw. With GSU amounting a substantial lead the Lady Pioneers held on to win 104-74.

Mickayla Perdue led Glenville State in scoring with a game high 23 points. Junior Breanna Campbell was productive on both ends producing 15 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Kamiyah Lyons, Dream Cherry, and Cabria Lewis all finished the contest in double figures.
