The No. 2 Lady Pioneers Survive West Liberty’s Late Surge to Win 94-87

West Liberty, W.Va. -  Glenville State Women's Basketball team has now won 10 straight with the 94-87 victory over the Hilltoppers of West Liberty. The Lady Pioneers entered the half with a 25-point advantage, but the Topper's offense exploded in the second half. Glenville was able to survive the late push with a dominant performance by Breanna Campbell.

The opening quarter of play proved to be physical with both quads committing a total of eleven fouls. West Liberty did strike first with a layup by Corinne Thomas. Breanna Campbell got the Lady Pioneers going answering the Hilltopper's early strike. In the opening minutes, Glenville was able to get to the rim putting West Liberty in foul trouble early. 

Coming out of the first media timeout GSU's offense started to catch fire. In a span of four minutes, the Lady Pioneers produced 11 points. However, West Liberty at the end of the first quarter started to dig into Glenville's advantage. Coach Stephen's squad entered the second quarter up 22-15.

In the second quarter, the Lady Pioneers continued to shoot efficiently from the field but finally got going from three. Deja Atkinson, Chalon Miles, and Mickayla Perdue all connected from beyond the arc. With Glenville finally hitting from deep the Lady Pioneers were able to open the second quarter with a 15-2 run. Perdue made back-to-back threes and Breanna Campbell converted an and one during the dominant streak.

During the last two minutes before heading into the half, GSU scored the last five points. The Lady Pioneers' small burst helped them take their largest lead of the game. With Mickayla Perdue's and-one and a layup by Tor'e Alford Glenville entered the half with a 25-point advantage 54-29.

Coming out of the half the West Liberty hit three three-pointers in a span of fewer than two minutes. The Topper's hot shooting from beyond the arc started a 14-4 run cutting GSU's advantage down to 15. Glenville would fight back to earn a 20-point lead before the under-five media timeout. However, West Liberty continued to hit shots scoring 32 points just in the third quarter. The Lady Pioneers still entered the fourth quarter with the advantage 75-61.

In the fourth, GSU would shoot 46.2% from the field but were held to only one three-point attempt. West Liberty continued to shoot lights out finishing the final quarter 61.1% from the field and 60% from three. In the first five minutes of the quarter, both teams traded buckets. The Hilltoppers during the stretch produced a slight advantage to cut Glenville's lead down to single digits before the media timeout.

Twice down the stretch, West Liberty made it a seven-point game. A layup by the Topper's Sonia Sarda brought the game into reach with 41 seconds remaining. With the Lady Pioneers up five, Breanna Campbell would be sent to the free-throw line. In the remaining minute of the contest, Campbell hit four crucial free throws for GSU. Surviving the late comeback Glenville held on to win 94-87

Breanna Campbell had a game and team-high 38 points on 66.7% shooting from the field. Junior Mickayla Perdue lead Glenville in rebounding producing seven rebounds with Aline Fevrier close behind with six. While Tore'e Alford would be held to five points she had a team-high four steals.
