PEMBROKE, N.C. - The Glenville State Football team was shutout this evening at UNC Pembroke 49-0. The Braves had outscored opponents 105-7 entering today's contest. UNCP put together 619 yards of total offense and held the Pioneers to just 216 yards of total offense.
1st Quarter
The Pioneers wasted almost nine minutes off the clock in their opening drive but would be stuffed four times from the one-yard line, turning the ball over on downs to the Braves. UNCP drove down the field and Colin Johnson threw an interception, however a roughing the passer bailed the Braves out and gave them a brand new set of downs.
2nd Quarter
The new set of downs worked in UNC Pembroke's favor as Colin Johnson ran it in from seven yards out. After forcing the Pioneers to go three and out, the Braves scored on an impressive 78-yard rush from JaQuan Kelly to boost their lead to 14-0. GSU looked to have a promising drive going across the 50-yard line but a fumble forced by the UNCP defense put a stop to that. On a 3rd and 15 from the Glenville 35, Johnson took a chance on a one on one down the sideline, going UNC Pembroke's way and making it a 21-0 game at the break.
Stats At The Half
The Braves ran for 120 yards in the first half while also putting together 152 yards through the air. Anthony Garrett had 110 passing yards for the Pioneers.
3rd Quarter
UNCP opened the new half up with a 52-yard touchdown pass from Johnson to Malik Tobias down the middle. Following the opening drive touchdown by the Braves, both teams had stale drives and nearly avoided turnovers twice.
4th Quarter
On the second play of the final quarter, UNCP's JaQuan Kelly increased the lead with a 10-yard score on the ground, making it 35-0. GSU had another scoring opportunity on the next drive, creeping into the redzone but a pair of penalties halted the drive and led to an eventual turnover on downs. Malik Tobias recorded his second and third receiving touchdowns on back-to-back drives, extending the UNCP lead and eventual final score to 49-0.
