Preview: Volleyball to Play at WVSU on Tuesday, Host WVWC on Friday

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Glenville State Women's Volleyball is nearing the end of the regular season with a road contest at West Virginia State tomorrow (Oct. 31) and a home match against West Virginia Wesleyan on Friday (Nov. 3).

THE OPPONENTS 
WEST VIRGINIA STATE 

The Yellow Jackets enter (20-4, 10-1 MEC) and are on a six-game win streak. WVSU defeated the Pioneers 3-0 on October 3rd in Glenville. 

Hillary Hurley is in her first season as Head Coach of the WV State Volleyball program. Hurley spent last season at Charleston as an assistant coach where the Golden Eagles hosted the MEC Tournament and won an NCAA Tournament match. Prior to coaching, she was a professional volleyball player in Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Italy, Poland and Germany.   

Two Yellow Jackets have 200 or more kills so far this season, led by Diamond'Nique Young's 256. Jacklyn Simms is behind her with 221. Kiersten Eggleton is nearing 700 assists, totaling 654 entering the new week. Alex Darby leads WVSU in digs with 253, averaging 4.69 digs per set.  

WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN 
The Bobcats come in (6-16, 1-10 MEC) after losing to Charleston 3-0 on Tuesday but defeating Salem 3-0 on Friday. Earlier in the year, GSU beat WVWC 3-0 at home.  

Nancy Wheeler is in her seventh season at the helm for the Bobcats. Before taking over at WVWC, Wheeler was the head coach at Penn State Fayette for nine seasons. While at Fayette, she captured eight PSUAC titles, including seven in a row and eight PSUAC Coach of the Year awards. 

Hope Arce-Reed is leading Bobcat in kills with 205, being the only player with over 200 kills. Four others have 100 or more kills. Sarah McCall has 311 assists and Autumn Molenhouse is atop the team leaderboard in digs with 223.  

THE PIONEERS 
GLENVILLE STATE 
The Pioneers enter the new week (10-15, 3-8 MEC) following a split last week with Davis & Elkins (W, 3-0) and Frostburg State (L, 3-0).  

Katarzyna Niderla's 228 kills makes her the only Pioneer with 200 or more kills. Rita Kelly is nearing that mark with 188. Sarah Grainger is now at 658 assists and 198 digs. The leader in digs is Lindsay Winkler, who recently went over 300 on the year with 304.
