ERIE, Pa. - The Glenville State Women's Basketball team dominated Clarion 117-74 today on the campus of Gannon in the Atlantic Region Challenge. The Lady Pioneers fired off 24 more shots than the Golden Eagles, going 44-84 (52%) from the field and knocking down 15 three-pointers.
GSU put it on CU from the start, jumping out to a 21-9 lead before the first media timeout sounded. A strong finish to the opening quarter allowed Glenville to lead by 18 going into the second quarter. After scoring 35 points in the first quarter, the Lady Pioneers nearly matched that in the second with a 34-point quarter, taking a 69-34 lead into the locker room.
The second half was controlled by Glenville State as well, hitting the century mark before the fourth quarter. With a 52-point lead going into the final quarter, GSU's offense slowed down to close the game out 117-74.
The Final Stats
Lauren Calhoun and Dream Cherry led the Lady Pioneers with 19 points each. Cherry connected from behind the arc five times and Calhoun ripped down nine rebounds also. Hya Haywood (15 points) and Kamiyah Lyons (13 points) were the other Lady Pioneers to reach double-figures. In total, 13 players appeared on the final stat sheet. GSU forced 31 turnovers in the win.
Clarion was led by Sadre'a Rougeau's 17 points. Three other Golden Eagles were in double figures and Bailey Matrascia grabbed six rebounds in the loss.
