Nine Pioneers Earn All-MEC Honors in Football

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - The Glenville State Football team had nine players selected to the All-MEC teams, including two All-MEC First Team recipients, the league announced today. 

Graduate student Ian Pomeroy and senior Seth Arnold were the two First Team selections for the Pioneers. Pomeroy, a 6-3 product out of Beckley, W.Va. was also on the All-MEC First Team last season, leading the GSU offensive line.  

Arnold, a 5-10 linebacker from nearby Burnsville, W.Va., rejoins the First Team after being a Second Team pick in 2022 and First Team honoree in 2021. Arnold finished fourth in the conference in tackles this year with 80 while adding nine TFL's and an interception. 

The Pioneers had three offensive and two defensive players make the All-MEC Second Team as Alfred Menjor, Orion Bonner, Isaiah Macklin, Jacob Clark and Mark Shepherd all landed on it.  

Menjor, a junior running back out of Tallahassee, Fla., had 182 carries for 751 yards (6th MEC) and six touchdowns. Menjor also caught 13 passes for 111 yards out of the backfield.  

Bonner, a 5-8 wide receiver from Moultire, Ga., led the Pioneers in receiving with 489 yards on 39 catches and three touchdowns. He had four games of 60 or more receiving yards including a season-high 106 receiving yards against West Liberty. 

Isaiah Macklin took Second Team honors after finishing the 2023 campaign with 37 total tackles, five TFL's and 1.5 sacks. The 6-1 junior also had a QB hurry. 

Clark, a 6-3 outside linebacker from Cinnaminson, N.J., was third on the team in tackles with 44. Clark recorded 8.5 TFL's and four sacks as well. 

The final All-MEC Second Team selection was Mark Shepherd, who finished the year with 19 total tackles. The 5-11 defensive back broke up five passes and intercepted one to add to his season totals. 

Justin Collier and Shaun Sterling Jr. were All-MEC Honorable Mention honorees. Collier, a 6-1 product from Detroit, Mich., was another key piece of the offensive line this season after spending his first two years on campus as a defensive lineman.  

Shaun Sterling Jr. was awarded Honorable Mention following a 34-tackle season. The 5-11 defensive back out of Lapalace, La. had 2.5 TFL's, five breakups, two interceptions and one QB hurry additionally. 

This year's nine All-MEC selections is the most since 2019 when the Pioneers also had nine selected.
