JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The No. 22 Glenville State Women's Basketball team fell to regional opponent Pitt-Johnstown 101-81 tonight in Pennsylvania. GSU forced 36 turnovers but had 23 of their own while UPJ shot 61% from the field and 58% from behind the arc.
The Lady Pioneers got on the board first with a Lauren Calhoun layup but it would be the Mountain Cats taking a 16-8 lead at the first media timeout of the game. GSU finished the remainder of the quarter off strong, trimming the deficit to just two at 20-18 at the end of the first quarter. Glenville State retook the lead (27-26) three minutes into the second quarter, having their first lead of the game since it was 2-0. After the Lady Pioneers were able to build their lead to as much as six, UPJ closed out the half on a 10-3 run, leading 38-37 at halftime.
The momentum at the end of the first half would carry over to the second half for the Mountain Cats, outscoring the Lady Pioneers 31-13 in the third quarter, growing a 19-point lead by the end of the quarter. In the fourth quarter, Pitt-Johnstown had a lead as big as 26, once again scoring 30-plus points in a quarter. At the final buzzer, UPJ walked away with a 101-81 victory.
The Final Stats
Hya Haywood led GSU in scoring with 27 points and Lauren Calhoun wasn't too far behind with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Zhordan Shannon was the final double-digit scorer with 10. Haywood's four assists was also first on the team.
Cassidy Crawford was the leading scorer for the Mountain Cats, dropping 33 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Peyton Alazaus was 4-5 from three, scoring 20 points. Kylah Franklin (14), Olivia Fasick (12) and Krista Troyer (12) all scored double digits also.
