SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The nationally ranked Glenville State Women's Basketball team went on the road tonight and defeated Notre Dame College 86-75. The 19th ranked Lady Pioneers knocked down 10 three-pointers and forced 41 turnovers in the win.
GSU wasted no time forcing a turnover, getting a steal in the first seven scconds of the game. Hya Haywood started where she left off at UPJ, draining the first points with a three-pointer. The offense continued for the Lady Pioneers, leading 13-8 at the first media timeout of the contest. Out of the media TO, Glenville State went on a 9-0 run before NDC answered back with GSU leading 27-13 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, NDC was able to trim the deficit to single digits on multiple occasions but the Lady Pioneers were able to keep the Falcons at bay. However, Notre Dame went on a 6-0 run to close out the half, outscoring GSU 21-15 in the quarter and cutting the GSU lead to 42-34 at the half.
At the beginning of the second half, NDC made it a five-point game on a free throw and layup. The Lady Pioneers were then able to go back up by a comfortable margin. This continued to the end of the third quarter, allowing Glenville State to take a 65-53 lead into the fourth quarter. The offense went on another run in the closing quarter, building a lead as big as 20. Notre Dame made it interesting at the end, trailing by nine with a minute and a half left. That wouldn't faze GSU as the Lady Pioneers held on to win 86-75.
The Final Stats
Lauren Calhoun recorded a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead Glenville State. Hya Haywood was the only other double-digit scorer with 17. Zhordan Shannon produced eight points and seven rebounds while also picking up three steals. Sanaiya Morris led the team in assists with four.
The Falcons were led by Karli Anker's 15 points and nine rebounds. Lilee Carlson (12 points) and Rachel Richardson (10 points) were also in double figures. Anker and Carlson dished out six assists each as well.
