Preview: Volleyball Enters Final Week of Regular Season

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Glenville State Volleyball enters the final week of the regular season with matchups at Charleston tomorrow (Nov. 6) and at home against Concord on Friday (Nov. 10) for senior night. The Pioneers were swept by both the Golden Eagles and the Mountain Lions earlier in the season.

THE OPPONENTS 
CHARLESTON 
The Golden Eagles enter (23-8, 10-3 MEC) and are winners in their last four games, including a 3-0 sweep over Concord on Friday. 

Tyler Kanelos is in his third season leading the Golden Eagles. Last year, he led Charleston to an historic 33-5 overall record, MEC South Division title, NCAA Tournament berth for the first time since 2007 and won their first NCAA Tournament game since 1998. Before taking over at UC, he was an assistant at Marshall during the 2020-21 season. He was also a volunteer assistant at the University of Dayton for two seasons. 

Three Golden Eagles are over the 200-kill mark, led by Emma Shepherd's 275. Sage Bearnson (269 kills) and Pia Selke (266 kills) aren't too far behind. As a team, UC has accounted for 1,211 assists with two separate setters recording over 400 each. Defensively, Chloe Fortner has 268 digs and Reagan McLean's 90 digs leads the team. 

CONCORD 
The Mountain Lions come in (15-13, 5-8 MEC) after splitting with Charleston (L, 3-0) and West Virginia Wesleyan (W, 3-1) last week. 

Kate Dillon is one of the longest tenured coaches in the MEC as she is in her 15th season leading the Mountain Lions. She has led CU to two winning seasons and is currently off to their best start since her arrival in 2009. In her tenure, Dillon has coached 11 All-Conference honorees. Prior to Concord, she was the Head Coach at Osbourn Park HS (Va.) where she led them to the final eight on four separate occasions. 

Concord's offense is led by Meg Williams' 371 kills and Chloe Thompson's 298 kills. CU has piled on the assist numbers as well with Paige Richmond (552 assists) and Declyn Tooze (421 assists) leading the way. Allie Davis has 439 digs to lead the Mountain Lion defense. 

THE PIONEERS 
GLENVILLE STATE 
The Pioneers enter the new week (11-16, 4-9 MEC) following Friday's win over West Virginia Wesleyan.  

Katarzyna Niderla (242 kills) and Rita Kelly (210 kills) lead the Pioneer offense. Sarah Grainger put her assist season total above 700 last time out, boosting it up to 704. Grainger has also added 213 digs which is third-best on the team behind Sydney Goodrich (253) and Lindsay Winkler (314). Niderla is nearing 100 blocks on the year with 98.
