Pioneers Hold off Comeback Attempt to Down PSU Mont Alto

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Men's Basketball team held off a 2nd half surge from Penn State Mont Alto today in the Waco Center, coming out victorious 70-65. The Pioneers shot just 37.5% from the field and 22% from three-point range but were able to fend off the Nittany Lions. 

PSU kept it close throughout the first half, only allowing the Pioneers to get up by as much as seven until Glenville State surged late in the half, going up 11 at the last media timeout. Mont Alto trimmed it back within 10 but GSU scored five unanswered points to take a 37-25 lead into the locker room. 

It looked to be all Pioneers in the second half, growing the lead to 18 with 10 minutes left in the game. The Nittany Lions weren't going away easy, going on a 12-0 run to cut the deficit to just six at 59-53 with under five minutes remaining. PSU made it a four-point game, however the Pioneers held off the Nittany Lions to escape with the victory. 

The Final Stats 
Dominiq Penn and Devin Collins both scored 12 points to lead the Pioneers. Trevor Chandler added 10 points as well. Rye Gadd led the rebounding efforts with eight while adding seven points. Gadd was also atop the assist leaders, tying Collins with three each. 

PSU Mont Alto was led by Veron Talla's 17 points and nine rebounds. Cameron Williams was all over the place, scoring 14 points, dishing out seven assists and grabbing six boards. Caleb Eckert had a near double-double, finishing with 11 points and nine rebounds in the loss.

The Pioneers return to action on Jan. 6 against Penn State Fayette, tipping off at 4 p.m.
