GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Women's Basketball team captured an important non-conference win today over Carson-Newman 76-68 inside the Waco Center. GSU shot 38% from the field and knocked down just six threes in the win.
The Eagles jumped out to a 15-8 lead in the opening quarter and would hold the Lady Pioneers at bay for the remainder of the quarter, taking a 21-18 advantage into the second. A quick 7-0 run at the start of the second quarter put Glenville State ahead but Carson-Newman answered back with a run of their own, scoring eight-straight points to regain the lead. Later in the half, GSU held the Eagles scoreless for nearly three minutes, carrying a 40-35 advantage into the second half.
A few quick buckets to start the new half gave Glenville State their biggest lead of the game at 10. Continuous attempts to pull away were halted by the Eagles but CNU couldn't get any closer than five in the third.. In the fourth quarter, Carson-Newman got within four but the Lady Pioneers ended the game on a 8-2 run, closing out the 76-68 victory.
The Final Stats
Chalon Miles had 18 points, eight rebounds and six assists to lead the Lady Pioneers, aided by Dejaan Schuler's 14 points and Hya Haywood's 12 points. Zhordan Shannon and Lauren Calhoun both grabbed eight rebounds while Haywood swiped a team-high five steals.
Braelyn Wykle scored 28 points to lead the Eagles and became the program's all-time leading scorer as well. Tori Rutherford was the only other player to reach double-figures, scoring 10 and grabbing eight rebounds. Campbell Penland and Lindsey Taylor grabbed six boards each in the loss.

Glenville State will once again be on a near two-week break, not playing again until they travel to Davis & Elkins on Jan. 10 to restart conference play.
