GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Women's Basketball team fell to 20th ranked Fairmont State 88-70 tonight inside the Waco Center. FSU struggled at the free throw line, only shooting 59% but made GSU turn the ball over 28 times on their way to victory.
The Falcons came out of the gates hot, shooting 60% from the field and holding the Lady Pioneers to just 26% in the opening quarter. With the good start for FSU, they led 24-11 going into the second quarter. Fairmont State built their lead to as much as 21 in the 2nd quarter but the Pioneers were able to trim it to a 17-point deficit at halftime. In the first half, Glenville State was forced into 18 turnovers.
The Lady Pioneers cut the lead to just 11 but the Falcons were able to counter once again, boosting their lead back up to 20. As FSU led 62-43 going into the fourth quarter, Glenville State had a solid start to the closing quarter, however the Falcons had an answer for every Lady Pioneer basket. FSU pulled away en route to their 88-70 win.
The Final Stats
Lauren Calhoun recorded another double-double, finishing the night with 23 points and 14 rebounds. Zhordan Shannon reached double figures with 11 points. Sanaiya Morris had four assists to lead the team.
Jalen Gibbs led the Falcons with 21 points on 10-11 shooting from the field. Alyssa DeAngelo didn't have one of her best nights but still managed to close out with 19 points. Katy Darnell almost had a triple-double, stacking the stat line with 17 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists.
