Women’s Basketball Falls to Frostburg State on the Road

FROSTBURG, Md. - The Glenville State Women's Basketball team fell to Frostburg State 102-98 earlier today in an MEC matchup. The Bobcats shot 56% from the field and connected on 27 free throws in the win.  

It was a high-scoring affair in the opening quarter with neither team being able to build a lead bigger than three. A Zhordan Shannon three-pointer with nine seconds left gave the Lady Pioneers a small advantage (26-24) going into the second quarter. In the following quarter, GSU had a late quarter lead slip away as Frostburg State led 45-43 at halftime. 

Glenville State found their footing once again in the third quarter, scoring 32 points and building a lead of six. However, it was another high-scoring quarter for the Bobcats with the Lady Pioneers leading 75-73 heading into the final quarter. The fourth quarter was full of both teams trading baskets as the game went down to the wire. FSU led 100-98 with 35 seconds left and GSU couldn't tie the game or take the lead, eventually leading to Frostburg's 102-98. 

The Final Stats 
Lauren Calhoun led the Lady Pioneers with 22 points and seven rebounds. Zhordan Shannon (16 points), Haywood (15 points) and Dream Cherry (15 points) were in double figures as well. Cherry and Payton James both had three assists in the loss. 

The nation's leading scorer Emilee Weakley had 40 points on 66% shooting from the field while also grabbing eight rebounds. Jenna Muha had a double-double, scoring 15 points and pulling down 11 boards.  

Up Next For The Pioneers 
Glenville State will be back in action on Dec. 18 against Washington Adventist at 11 a.m. for the annual Kids Day game.
