GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Women's Basketball team picked up a much-needed win today against Washington Adventist 110-86 in GSU's annual Kids Day Game. The Lady Pioneers outscored the Shock 56-39 in the second half to pull away. GSU netted 17 threes and shot 44% from the field in the win.
Glenville State jumped out to a 22-9 lead six minutes into the first quarter but WAU would then close the quarter out on a 10-3 run to cut the Lady Pioneer lead to 25-19 heading into the second. GSU went up by as much as 14 in the following quarter, however the Shock were able to once again trim the deficit down, making it a seven-point game at halftime.
Though Washington Adventist fell behind by 14 and fought back to make it a four-point game in the third quarter, GSU put together a number of stops to boost their lead back to double digits at 86-72 going into the fourth quarter. In the closing stanza, Glenville State put their foot on the gas and pulled away from WAU, growing the advantage to as much as 30 and closing out the game with a 110-86 victory.
The Final Stats
Lauren Calhoun led all scorers with 22 points while also finishing with a double-double, grabbing 10 boards. Four other Lady Pioneers reached double figures as Hya Haywood closed out the day with a near double-double, scoring 12 points and dishing out eight assists. Zhordan Shannon continues to be consistent, scoring nine points and pulling down nine rebounds in the win.
Kori People and Shelby Ricks both finished with 16 points to lead the Shock. People dished out nine assists and Ricks had a double-double with 12 rebounds. Nyelle Allen joined the double-double club, scoring 12 points and accumulating 12 rebounds off the bench. WAU's leading scorer Sarah Shamdeen was held to just seven points and forced into 10 turnovers.

Glenville State will be off for nearly two weeks before they host Carson-Newman on December 30 at 12 p.m.
