No.5 Lady Pioneers Make it Nine Straight Defeating WVWC 69-55

Buckhannon, W.Va. - Glenville State Women's Basketball team defeated the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan 69-55 picking up their 24th win of the season. While the Lady Pioneers shot 30.9% from the field they would force 31 turnovers. GSU was able to score 25 points off of the 31 turnovers.

Glenville was able to get on the board in the first possession with a three by Tor'e Alford. The Lady Pioneers started out the contest on a 7-2 run. West Virginia Wesleyan started to dig into GSU's early advantage with their offense finding their rhythm. Coach Stephens's squad where able to hold onto a one-possession lead throughout most of the first quarter. 

Coming out of the first media timeout, the Bobcats would tie it up 12-12. Both teams continued to battle throughout the remainder of the first quarter. WVWC took their first lead of the contest at the 1:20 mark. However, the Pioneers scored a layup in the final seconds of the first to go up 20-19.

Both offenses came to a standstill in the second quarter. GSU's 13 points proved to be enough to increase their lead. While the Lady Pioneers only shot 17.6% from the field, they would only miss one free throw attempt. Glenville had an eight-point advantage at the 3:02 mark but went cold in the last three minutes. West Virginia Wesleyan's Emma Witt and Daveona Hatchell hit shots inside the paint to make it 33-29 before heading into the half.

The Lady Pioneers once again had a strong third quarter. GSU started out the quarter on a 10-2 run jumping to their first double-digit lead of the game. Coach Stephens's squad started to hit shots from beyond the arc. Glenville State hit a game-high four threes in the third. At the 8:42 mark, Mickayla Perdue hit her first three of the quarter. Perdue would go on to hit three more before the end of the quarter. 

During the final quarter of play, the Lady Pioneers took their largest lead of the contest 57-41. For most of the quarter, GSU was able to hold onto their 16-point advantage. With both teams trading buckets until the very end, Glenville would go on to win 69-55.

Mickayla Perdue led Glenville in scoring with 21 points and grabbed five rebounds. Brenna Campbell and Hya Haywood wrapped up the Lady Pioneers in double figures. Senior Aline Fevrier produced a team-high nine rebounds.
