Preview: Volleyball Heads to Buckhannon for Bobcat Invitational

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Glenville State Volleyball will be busy this weekend on the campus of West Virginia Wesleyan, playing four games in two days at the Bobcat Invitational on Friday (Sept. 15) and Saturday (Sept. 16). This marks the second invitational the Pioneers have played in as they opened up the 2023 season at the Cedarville InvitationalĀ

THE OPPONENTSĀ 
CENTRAL STATE Ā 
The Marauders enter (1-11, 1-0 SIAC) with three of their 11 losses coming to Mountain East Conference schools (Notre Dame College, West Liberty, West Virginia State).Ā 

Casey Williams leads the team with 60 kills, followed by Braelynn Reese's 47. Brooke Morris has been solid all year for CSU, totaling 162 assists on the year (13.5 per game). The team as a whole has struggled with errors, tallying 246 this season.Ā 

SETON HILL Ā 
The Griffins come in (2-6) overall after defeating MEC foe Fairmont State 3-1 on Saturday. SHU have also played Frostburg State this season, losing 3-2 last Friday.Ā 

Paige Cole has recorded a team-high 122 kills and 90 digs in just eight matches. The next closest attacker is Catie Flohr who has just over half the amount Cole does with 66. Abby Oesterling has played the most sets of any Griffin while also putting together the most assists at 179. She also leads the team in service aces, gathering 19 on the year.Ā 

UNIV. OF INDIANAPOLISĀ 
The Greyhounds are welcomed to the Bobcat Invitational (6-2) overall, being winners in three of their last four games. Ā 

Sophia Parlanti (101) and Grace Hegwood (95) lead the team in kills, averaging over three kills per set each. Claire Morris has been phenomenal all year for UINDY, already recording 292 assists (10.43 per set / 36.5 per game). Defensively, Ellie Spang has over 100 digs with 111 and Hegwood is nearing the century mark with 90.Ā 

BOWIE STATEĀ 
The Bulldogs enter (1-6) overall, recently picking up their first win of the year at home against Virginia-Lynchburg on Tuesday.Ā 

Bowie State spreads it all over as seven different Bulldogs have 10 or more kills, led by Madyson Brimson with 31. Mekenna Scott is first on the team in assists with 84, followed by Haley Pelham's 39. On the defensive side, three separate Bulldogs have 30 or more digs this season.Ā
