Preview: Volleyball Scheduled for Two MEC Matchups, One Non-Conference Game This Week

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Glenville State Volleyball looks to secure their first conference wins this week as they take on Davis & Elkins at home tomorrow (Sept. 26) and travel to West Virginia Wesleyan on Friday (Sept. 29). On Saturday (Sept. 30), the Pioneers will travel to Pennsylvania for a non-conference matchup against Penn State Fayette.

THE OPPONENTS 
DAVIS & ELKINS SENATORS
 
The Senators enter (1-11) overall, previously picking up their first win of the season on Friday at home against Salem 3-0. Prior to the victory, D&E had only won two total sets all season.  

Moneshia McKenney is in her first season leading the Senator Volleyball program. Prior to D&E, she was the Head Coach at LaGrange College for their indoor and beach volleyball teams. McKenney started her coaching career at the Division I ranks as an assistant at both Oral Roberts and East Carolina. She played collegiately at Clemson and is one of just seven players in school history to eclipse 1,000 career kills and 1,000 digs. 

Brittany Portley leads the team in kills with 48 and is backed up by Melissa Ozsar's 43. Simone Daniels has 150 assists on the year (1st on team) and 57 digs (2nd on team). Clara Caralt is the team leader in digs with 175. 

WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN  BOBCATS 
The Bobcats enter (4-7, 0-1 MEC) after opening up conference play with a 3-2 loss at home against Notre Dame College. WVWC will play at the University of Charleston tomorrow before meeting with the Pioneers on Friday. 

Nancy Wheeler is in her seventh season at the helm for the Bobcats. Before taking over at WVWC, Wheeler was the head coach at Penn State Fayette for nine seasons. While at Fayette, she captured eight PSUAC titles, including seven in a row and eight PSUAC Coach of the Year awards. 

Hope Ace-Reed is the leading attacker for WV Wesleyan with 102 kills through the first 11 games of the year. Emily Denison has been a good second option, totaling 72 kills. Sarah McCall is up to 264 assists (8.52 assists per set), which leads the team by a wide margin.  

PENN STATE FAYETTE ROARING LIONS 
The Roaring Lions are (6-5, 3-1 PSUAC) and have lost two of their last three games. PSU Fayette will take on PSU Du Bois on Wednesday prior to playing GSU. 

Anna Tale is in her first season as Head Coach at Penn State Fayette. She has experience as a HC at Penn Highlands Volleyball Club, No Boarders Volleyball Club and the Uniontown School District. Tale was also an assistant at PSU Fayette from 2017-2021.  

Pasepa Driso–Buwawa sits at the top for team leaders in kills with 107. Kamden Miller is not too far behind with 97. Emma Eckert is the leading setter, totaling 213 assists this season.  

THE PIONEERS 
GLENVILLE STATE 

The Pioneers come into the week (4-8, 0-1 MEC), lastly losing to Fairmont State 3-0 on Friday. 

Katarzyna Niderla (110) and Rita Kelly (86) are atop the team leaders in kills this season. They have been setup all year by Sarah Grainger, who has 313 assists. Grainger still leads the nation in aces per set at .83 and ranks 6th in total service aces with 34. Lindsay Winkler is one of four Pioneers with over 100 digs, leading the team with 136.
