GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Lady Pioneers reached the century mark for the third time this year in today's 100-71 blowout win over West Virginia Wesleyan at home. The Lady Pioneers knocked down 12 three-pointers and forced the Bobcats into 37 turnovers in the victory.
It was a slow start for GSU, opening the game down 11-6 but climbing back to a 16-15 advantage going into the second quarter. It was a much different story in the following quarter as the Lady Pioneers put up a 30-point performance in the second quarter, taking a 45-32 lead into halftime.
WVWC trimmed the deficit down to seven to begin the 2nd half, however that was the closest the Bobcats could get for the remainder of the game. Glenville amped up the pressure, recording a 74-53 lead going into the final quarter. The lead was increased to as much as 30 in the fourth quarter with the Lady Pioneers closing out the Bobcats and securing the 100-71 victory.
The Final Stats
Hya Haywood led all scorers and was one of five Lady Pioneers with double figures, scoring 16 points. Lauren Calhoun and Kamiyah Lyons both had 13 points while Dream Cherry and Payton James finished 11 points each. Zhordan Shannon led the rebounding efforts with five and Haywood had five assists to lead the team.
The Bobcats were led by Shelby Genes' 13 points and Desiree Roy's 12 points and 13 rebounds. Emma Witt and Sydney Baird both closed the day out with 11 points each. Baird recorded six assists, which was first on the team.
