GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Football team used five turnovers to push their record to (4-4, 4-2 MEC) with a 37-14 victory over West Liberty at Morris Stadium today. The Pioneers produced 329 yards of total offense and scored a defensive touchdown in the win.
1st Quarter
After
Jamair Diaz added to his sack total for the year to force a turnover on downs, the Hilltoppers were able to get the ball right back on an interception that would be taken all the way down to the GSU one-yard line. West Liberty scored on the next play to take an early 7-0 lead. The Pioneers used a big play from
Tariq Miller to set up a field goal, trimming the Hilltopper lead.
2nd Quarter
It was a defensive showcase for the next three drives until
Anthony Garrett found freshman
Amari Colon-Brown from 37 yards out on a 3
rd and 16 to make it 10-7 Pioneers. The GSU defense forced a three and out, allowing Glenville State to get the ball one more time before the break. A solid drive was capped off by a
Tariq Miller TD catch in the back of the endzone from seven yards out as the Pioneers went into the locker room up 16-7.
3rd Quarter
West Liberty's defense stood strong on the first drive of the second half, making GSU go three and out. WLU had an 81-yard drive after the stop, scoring on an 11-yard touchdown pass as the score stood at 16-14 Pioneers. A few 20+ yard plays and a five-yard touchdown run from
Zavione Wood pushed Glenville's lead to 23-14. GSU gambled with an onside kick, recovering it but were unable to take advantage of the good field position.
4th Quarter
The Hilltoppers had a promising drive come to an end when
Isaiah Macklin recorded an interception and took it 60 yards until finally being hawked down. Plays later, WLU took the ball right back on an interception of their own. However, West Liberty coughed the ball up on the next play and the Pioneers were all on it.
Markquan Rucker ran it in from two yards out on the following play to extend the Pioneers lead to 30-14. A few drives later,
De Vante Roberson put the finishing touches on the game when he jumped the curl route and took it home for a pick-six, leading the Pioneers to the 37-14 victory.

West Liberty
The Hilltoppers played four different quarterbacks today, led by Alex Dunlevy's 114 yards and one TD. He also threw two interceptions. On the ground, Hunter Patterson ran for 76 yards and a touchdown. Ben Turner led the team in receptions (7) and yards (66) while Patterson had four catches for 42 yards and a TD. Delano Marcelus had seven tackles, two TFL's and one sack to lead the Hilltopper defense. Grant Thompson also finished with two TFL's in the loss.
Glenville State
Anthony Garrett completed 12 passes for 208 yards and two touchdowns.
Zavione Wood (15 carries, 66 yards, one TD) and
Markquan Rucker (10 carries, 44 yards, one TD) led the Pioneer ground game.
Tariq Miller finished with three receptions for 79 yards and one touchdown while
Amari Colon-Brown notched two receptions for 62 yards and a TD.
Jamair Diaz continued his stellar season, picking up five total tackles, 1.5 TFL and one sack.
Shaun Sterling Jr. added four tackles and 1.5 TFL. Elias Jeffry Ofosu,
Isaiah Macklin and
De Vante Roberson all had an interception with Roberson taking it back for a pick-six.
