Preview: Pioneers Head South to West Virginia State and Charleston

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State Volleyball is looking to bounce back with two conference matchups against West Virginia State and Charleston this week.

THE OPPONENTS
WEST VIRGINIA STATE
2024 Season
The Yellow Jackets come in (8-8, 3-0 MEC) and are winners of their previous three games, including a 3-2 victory over Wheeling. 

Quick Look at The Yellow Jackets
The Jackets are led by Avery Moore, who is in her first year leading the program. Offensively, the Jackets are led by Hannah Steele (194 kills) and Mathews Maureen (172 kills) while Kiersten Eggleton has 494 assists. Def4nsively, Morgan Caba leads the team in digs with 180 and Eggleton has 130. At the net, Nicole Gartner Custodio has 53 blocks and Valencia Wilder has 51.

CHARLESTON
2024 Season
The Golden Eagles enter (11-5, 1-2 MEC) after dropping a non-conference matchup to Belmont Abbey on Thursday and taking a 3-2 defeat at Concord on Friday .

UC is led by Tyler Kanelos and he is entering his third season at the helm the Golden Eagles. The Golden Eagles are led offensively by Emma Shepherd (168 kills) and Pia Selke (142 kills). The leading setter is Abby Avila, who has 318 assists on the year. On the defensive side, Chloe Fortner has 191 digs and Riley Hoff has 156. At the net, Kate Strong has 63 blocks to lead the Golden Eagles.

THE PIONEERS

2024 Season
The Pioneers come into the week (3-10, 1-2 MEC), looking to right the ship in league play with an opportunity against teams ahead of them in the Mountain East Southern Division standings.

Rita Kelly is still leading the team in kills with 131, with true freshman Keleigh Chrisman adding 91 and Malerie Ross 90. Sadie Hill is excelling in setting up teammates as she has recorded 310 assists on the year. On defense, Isabella Bailey has 104 digs and Bryanne Tustin 97, with Greta Petofi at the net with 26 blocks and Kelly with 20.
