CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Glenville State Men's Basketball team split at the UC Classic this weekend, defeating Indiana (Pa.) 72-70 on Friday night but falling to No. 6 California (Pa.) 84-71 yesterday afternoon.
Game One – GSU 72 | IUP 70
The teams traded buckets for the first five minutes until Grayson College transfer
Samier Kinsler scored eight straight points to give the Pioneers a lead. From there, buckets started to fall for GSU as Glenville State built a 10-point lead at the under 10 timeout and extended it to 12 at the under five timeout. The Hawks were able to make sure the game didn't get out of hand, trimming the Pioneer lead to 43-35 at the break.
GSU kept IUP at bay out of the locker room. Freshman
Elijah Redfern connected from deep to give the Pioneers their biggest lead of the game (13) with just under 13 minutes left. Glenville State saw their 60-47 lead diminish when Indiana (Pa.) put together a 17-2 run to take the lead right before the under five timeout. Score after score kept the contest a one possession game and the Pioneers took a three-point lead with 45 seconds left on a

Dominiq Penn went 1-2 at the line but an offensive rebound by
Prince Mosengo halted a scoring opportunity for IUP, securing the 72-70 win for GSU.

The Hawks has four players reach double figures, led by Tyler Groves 17 points. Damir Brooks recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards. Grove and Luke Triggs both grabbed nine rebounds in the loss.
Glenville State
Samier Kinsler led all scorers with 24 points.
Dominiq Penn added 19 points and New Hampshire transfer Paul Gakmier finished with 10 points and seven rebounds. Freshman
Elijah Redfern chimed in with 12 points, four assists and three rebounds.
Prince Mosengo pulled down a team leading 12 rebounds in the win.
Game Two – GSU 71 | CALPA 84
The Vulcans jumped out to an early five-point lead but a 7-0 run by the Pioneers gave GSU a 9-7 lead at the 13-minute mark. The pace picked up quickly as a three from freshman
Don Colon-Lewis made it a 21-20 game with eight and a half minutes left in the half. From that point, California (Pa.) went on a 20-4 run, taking a 41-24 lead into the locker room.
The CALPA lead grew to as much as 24 in the second half but the Pioneers were able to cut the deficit down to 14 at the under five timeout. However, the Vulcans didn't let GSU make anymore of a run, closing out the 84-71 win for California (Pa.).

Donald Whitehead Jr. led all scorers with 26 points, draining six three-pointers. Keith Palek III finished with 14 points while Bryson Lucas filled up the stat sheet with 12 points, 13 rebounds and five assists. Kadyn Hannah (11 points) and Dalman Alexander (10 points) also had double digits.

Freshmen
Elijah Redfern (16 points) and
Ammar Maxwell (15 points, eight rebounds) led the Pioneers in the loss.

Prince Mosengo had a near double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.
