ERIE, Pa. – The Glenville State Women's Basketball team tipped off the 2024-25 season in the Atlantic Region Challenge this weekend, falling to No. 11 Gannon, 83-58, on Saturday and defeating Slippery Rock, 89-75, earlier today.
Game One – GSU 58 | #11 GU 83
The Lady Pioneers fell behind 7-0 and didn't put their first points of the game on the board until the 5:41 mark when
Payton James drained a three. GSU fought back to take a 12-10 lead, however Gannon outscored the blue and white 7-2 to end the quarter to take a 17-14 advantage. In the second quarter, the game remained close and the Lady Pioneers regained the lead until GU finished the half out strong, leading 33-27 at the break.
After halftime, the Lady Pioneers fell behind as much as eight but eventually cut the deficit back down to just one on an
Ashlyn Riley three. A 9-2 run in the final three minutes of the quarter put the Golden Knights up 50-43 going into the fourth quarter. The closing quarter was controlled by Gannon as GU outscored Glenville State 33-15, pulling away to an 83-58 victory over GSU.

Gannon
Kate Ratliff led all scorers with 29 points, picking up 14 from the free throw line on a perfect 14-14 free throw shooting. Ratliff also brought down 16 rebounds and dished out five assists. Maddy Wheatley added 15 points and Carissa Dunham had 12 points and five rebounds in the win.
Glenville State
Nwando Okigbo was the only double-digit scorer for the Lady Pioneers, finishing with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Payton James and
Kenyah Stubbs both had eight points while
Dejaan Schuler and
Tynasia Bunting had four rebounds each.
Game Two – GSU 89 | SRU 75
A slow start by GSU was quickly redeemed with a 16-4 run to take an 18-11 lead with just over four minutes left in the opening quarter. The pressure stayed on The Rock, allowing the Lady Pioneers to go up 26-15 heading into the second quarter. GSU and SRU were more evenly matched in the 2
nd quarter but a three by
Ashlyn Riley before the buzzer pushed Glenville State to a 48-35 advantage at half.
Out of the locker room, GSU grew their lead to as much as 14 but an 8-1 run by Slippery Rock midway through the third quarter made it a four-point game. A pair of buckets by Chowan transfer
Tynasia Bunting put the lead back to double digits before SRU converted on two layups before the end of the quarter. Trailing 65-58 at the start of the final quarter, The Rock quickly scored but GSU never allowed them to get any closer than five, eventually pushing the advantage out to 16 before securing the 89-75 win.
Final Stats
Slippery Rock
Regan Atkins led all scorers with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Mairan Haggerty (12 points) and Rebecca Goetz (10 points) also finished with double digits. Kayley Joseph-Bernard pulled down 10 boards and scored eight points in the defeat.
Glenville State
The Lady Pioneers were led by Tynasia Butning's 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting. Freshman
Ashlyn Riley finished with 16 points and three boards while
Dream Cherry (12 points) and
Nwando Okigbo (10 points and nine rebounds) added more scoring for the blue and white.
Jade Salters was all over the place, capping off the win with six points, five rebounds and four assists.
