PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Glenville State Women's Basketball team buried 15 threes and forced 36 turnovers to defeat Point Park, 97-77, on the road Thursday evening. GSU notched their first MEC win of the early season.
The Lady Pioneers raced out to an early 9-1 lead after a Dream Cherry three pointer and the Lady Pioneers would lead 22-12 after one quarter of play, thanks to a Tynasia Bunting layup with just a few seconds left in the first. The second quarter saw back and forth action in the first five minutes but a layup by Ashlyn Riley and a free throw by Bunting allowed GSU to lead by 16 at the halftime break.
The third quarter started out hot for the Lady Pioneers after Stevi Yancy buried two threes in the first minute of the third quarter to push the lead to 22. However, PPU climbed back into the game with a three from Alexis Giles to make the score 70-58 at the end of the third quarter. GSU hit their stride midway through the 4th with Yancy converting on an and-one and Payton James nailing long ball to push the lead back to 15. The Lady Pioneers put the finishing touches on the game with free throws, winning by a score of 97-77.

Point Park
PPU had four double digit scores, including Camille Fultz with 26, Emma Pavelek with 15, Alexis Giles with 14 and Aichata Ballo with 10. Ballo led the Pioneers in assists with seven in the game and Ari Bleda chipped in with five. Ballo was also the leading rebounder for Point Park as she recorded 14 on the night, along with Fultz recording 11.
Glenville State
Tynasia Bunting and Dream Cherry led the Lady Pioneers in scoring as both scored 19 points while Ashlyn Riley (14) and Stevi Yancy (13) were also double figure scorers. The Lady Pioneers splashed 15 threes and were efficient from the free throw stripe, shooting 16-21 on the night. Defensively, Bunting led the team in steals with four while Riley recorded three along with nine rebounds to lead the team. The Lady Pioneers had 20 steals total in the game.

The Lady Pioneers are home for the first time this year for a non-conference matchup with Bluefield State on Saturday (Nov. 16) in their home opener. The contest is set for a 2 p.m. tip.
