Preview: Women’s Basketball Starts 2024-25 Season at Gannon for Atlantic Region Challenge

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State Women's Basketball will begin the 2024-25 season tomorrow (Nov. 9) on the campus of Gannon University for the Atlantic Region Challenge. The Lady Pioneers will play No. 11 Gannon tomorrow and Slippery Rock on Sunday.

THE OPPONENTS
GANNON
2024-25 Season
The Golden Knights enter (3-0) after going undefeated at the CCA DII Canadian Tip Off Classic. Gannon had a historic 2023-24 season, going (35-3), winning the PSAC Championship and appearing in the NCAA DII Elite Eight.

Head Coach
Cleve Wright is in his 17th season as HC of the Golden Knights. Wright had an 11-year stint from 2002-13 before taking over a pair of DI programs and eventually coming back to Gannon. Wright has won nearly 400 games, four conference championships and nine NCAA Tournaments.

Quick Look at The Golden Knights
Gannon features four double figure scorers, led by Bri Claxon's 17.0 PPG. Kate Ratliff (13.7 PPG), Carissa Dunham (13.7 PPG) and Andrea Maibach (10.7 PPG) follow behind while Maddy Wheatley leads the team in rebounds (7.7 RPG) and nearly averages double digits (9.7 PPG). Trinitee Harris only averages 3.7 PPG but has a team leading 4.0 APG.

SLIPPERY ROCK
2023-24 Season
The Rock went (2-23, 2-20 PSAC) in 2023-24 with wins coming over Shippensburg and Clarion. SRU saw their very own be named PSAC West Freshman of the Year in Regan Atkins.

Head Coach
Ryenn Micaletti is in her second season leading The Rock's WBB program. Micaletti came to Slippery Rock after 12 years as an assistant at Navy, Longwood and St. Louis. She was an assistant at SRU earlier in her coaching career (2014-16).

Quick Look at The Rock.
Slippery Rock returns PSAC West Freshman of the Year, Regan Atkins, as she started all 25 games and averaged 15.2 PPG. In total, SRU is brining back six of last year's top eight scorers. Deryn Moye is one of those six, averaging 5.9 PPG last year.

THE PIOEERS
GLENVILLE STATE

2023-24 Season
The Lady Pioneers went (18-11, 11-9 MEC) in 2023-24, falling to Notre Dame in the first round of the MEC Tournament. Glenville State had two earn All-Conference honors.

Head Coach
Emily Stoller is in her second season leading the Lady Pioneers. Stoller was an assistant under Kim Caldwell before taking over as HC. Stoller played collegiately at GSU, scoring 1,494 career points and winning 87 games in three seasons.

Quick Look at The Lady Pioneers
Glenville State returns Chalon Miles (11.9 PPG), Dream Cherry (9.1 PPG), Dejaan Schuler (5.2 PPG) and Payton James (3.7 PPG) while adding from the transfer portal, high school ranks and internationally. Out of the portal, GSU added Chowan transfer Tynasia Bunting, who averaged 16.7 PPG in 2023-24. JUCO product Stevi Yancy looks to add more versatility at the guard position after posting 12.4 PPG, 4.4 RPG and 36 APG at Garden City last year.
