GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Former Glenville State Head Football Coach Rich Rodriguez has been named West Virginia University's Head Coach. His last season with the Pioneers came in 1996.

Rodriguez coached Glenville State from 1990-1996 after short stints as a student assistant and linebackers coach at WVU as well as one season as HC at Salem. During his tenure in Glenville, Rodriguez won 43 games, four WVIAC championships, NAIA National Coach of the Year (1993), West Virginia State College Coach of the Year (1993) and led the Pioneers to the NAIA National Championship game in 1993.

He made stops as a coordinator at Tulane and Clemson before returning to the Mountain State in 2001 to take over the Mountaineers. After a successful stay in Morgantown, he had head coaching stints at Michigan and Arizona before getting back on his feet as a coordinator at Ole Miss and Louisiana-Monroe. Previously, Rodriguez led Jacksonville State to three nine-win seasons, a bowl victory and a Conference USA title. Now, he returns back to the state of West Virginia, where he grew up and coached, to lead the Mountaineers a second time.
