Lady Pioneers Reach Highest Point Total Since 2022 in Kids Day Victory

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Women's Basketball team scored 120 points en route to a blowout victory, 120-51, over Salem on Wednesday morning inside the Waco Center. This was the highest point total for the Lady Pioneers since 2022 when GSU scored 126 against Alderson Broaddus.

The Lady Pioneers jumped out to an early lead at 9-0 after a Mycala Carney layup, forcing a SU timeout.GSU would take a eight point lead into the quarter break at 21-13. In the second quarter, the Pioneers scored 37 points to extend their lead as Dream Cherry Nwando Ohigbo, Dejaan Schuler and Stevi Yancy all chipped in with scores and the Lady Pioneers held a commanding 36-point lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, Glenville State only allowed 11 points and extended their lead with scoring from Kenyah Stubbs, Tynasia Bunting, Jamesha Samuel and Jhakia Gist. In the fourth, the Pioneers would score 37 more points to put the game on ice. Jamesha Samuel knocked down a three and Stubbs would convert a layup late to make the final score 120-51.

Carine Pinkney led the Tigers in scoring with 12 with Cassandra Smith and Kamryn Ruffin both having 10. Carmen Vasquez had six rebounds to pace SU while Pinkney chipped in with five. Kori Pillette recorded three assists in the loss.

Glenville State
Dream Cherry led the Lady Pioneer scoring attack with 22 points and four made threes while Kenyah Stubbs had 20, Tynasia Bunting with 16 and Nwando Okigbo with 13. Okigbo led the team in rebounding with 10 and Stubbs chipped in with seven. In the assist department, Stubbs and Carney had five each and Dejaan Schuler had four. Defensively, Cherry notched six steals, Stubbs and Stevi Yancy had five and Payton James had four. Okigbo had two blocks and Ashlyn Riley had one to close out the book for the Lady Pioneers.

Up Next For The Lady Pioneers
GSU will travel to Fairmont State next Wednesday (Dec. 11) to take on the the Falcons. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
