GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Women's Basketball team fell to Notre Dame College 94-86 today inside the Waco Center. NDC shot 51% from the field and 59% from three while holding GSU to 37% from the field and 18% from behind the arc.
The teams went back and forth for the first five minutes of the game until the Falcons went on a 16-4 run to end the opening quarter, taking a 31-16 advantage into the second stanza. The NDC lead grew to as much as 20 mid-way through the second quarter but the Lady Pioneers went on a quick 7-0 run to end the half, trimming the Falcon lead to 45-32 going into the locker room.
The strong finish to the first half carried over to the start of the second half as GSU made it a five-point game at the media timeout. Notre Dame held off GSU for as long as they could, but that eventually ran out when Chalon Miles connected from inside to tie the game up at 61 before the third quarter closed.
In the final quarter, Glenville State captured their first lead of the game (65-64) but it wouldn't last long with the Falcons regaining the lead a minute later. The teams traded the lead a few more times, however NDC took control late and hit their free throws to leave Glenville with a 94-86 victory.
The Final Stats
Hya Haywood led all scorers with 28 points, followed by Lauren Calhoun's double-double (21 points, 10 rebounds). Dream Cherry added 11 points and Chalon Miles chimed in with 10 points. Haywood and Miles both recorded three assists in the loss.
The Falcons were led by Karli Anker's 22 points, including 12-16 shooting from the free throw line. Kennadi Harris (16 points), Lilee Carlson (13 points), Rachel Richardson (13 points), Nadia Jackson (12 points) and Noel Weathers (10 points) were all in double digits as well. Weathers grabbed 10 boards to finish with a double-double.
