GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Women's Basketball team controlled most of tonight's 86-64 victory over West Liberty inside the Waco Center. GSU knocked down 14 three-pointers and got off 30 more shots than the Hilltoppers. Glenville was able to get so many more shots off due to 34 West Liberty turnovers.
The Lady Pioneers came out with a sense of urgency, scoring the first nine points of the game. WLU then countered the hot start by the Lady Pioneers with a 15-2 run, taking a 15-11 lead with two and a half minutes left in the opening quarter. GSU didn't allow the dry spell to hurt them, finishing the quarter on a 10-0 run to regain the lead at 21-15. The blue and white added even more offense in the 2nd quarter, scoring 28 points on 42% shooting from the field, holding the Hilltoppers to just 15 points in the quarter once again. Glenville State went into the locker room with a 49-30 lead.
By the first media timeout of the 2nd half, Glenville State grew their lead to 31 (64-33), knocking down three of their first four three-pointers of the half. West Liberty slowed GSU down for the rest of the quarter but the lead that GSU was far too large for the lack of offense to make much of a difference as the Lady Pioneers led 68-44 after three quarters of play.
