GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Women's Basketball team fell to the University of Charleston 74-64 tonight inside the Waco Center. The Golden Eagles shot 30-45 (67%) from the field and outrebounded the Lady Pioneers 39-15.
The Lady Pioneers were forced to call a quick timeout after UC opened the night up 8-0. The Charleston lead grew to 14-5 before GSU went on an 18-3 run to close out the opening quarter, gaining a 23-17 advantage. Glenville was able to build their biggest lead of the half (15) midway through the second quarter but the Golden Eagles trimmed it down to 41-31 by halftime.
UC quickly cut the lead down to two by the under-5 media timeout of the 3rd quarter. The two squads traded buckets for the remainder of the quarter with the Golden Eagles holding onto a slight 53-51 advantage. The second half struggles for the Lady Pioneers continued in the closing quarter as Charleston was able to maintain their lead, answering any bucket GSU had. UC eventually pulled away, winning 74-64.
The Final Stats
Hya Haywood poured in a game-high 27 points and picked up eight steals. With Haywood being the only double-figure scorer, Dream Cherry was the next closest with nine points. Kamiyah Lyons and Sanaiya Morris both had four assists in the loss.
Clarissa Francis led the Golden Eagles with 21 points on 10-11 shooting from the field. Nia Vanzant (15 points) and Paris Stokes (10 points) also finished in double digits. Haley Moore had eight rebounds with six points and three assists in the win.

Glenville State will honor their seniors and close out the 2023-24 regular season on Saturday when they host Concord. Tip is set for 2 p.m.
