GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Women's Basketball team had their late comeback fall short earlier today against Concord, losing 80-75 to close out the regular season. The Mountain Lions shot 56% from the field while holding the Lady Pioneers to a 38% shooting day from the field.
It was a sluggish start to the day for GSU, going over three minutes before they scored their first bucket of the game. From there, Concord was able to keep their lead around 9-11 points for the remainder of the quarter, holding onto a 24-15 advantage going into the second quarter. The Mountain Lions lead blossomed to as much as 15 but would quickly be dwindled down to seven just minutes later. CU stood their ground to end the half, leading 47-36.
Every time it seemed like the Lady Pioneers were beginning to inch closer, Concord answered back to keep Glenville at bay. This resulted in CU still hanging onto the lead at the end of the 3Q, 67-57. GSU fell behind 75-57 with a little over five minutes left in the game but a 14-0 run put them right in the thick of things, trailing 75-71 with a minute and a half remaining. GSU trimmed the deficit to as little as one and had a chance to tie it up with 16 seconds left after falling behind three, however a missed three-pointer and a pair of free throws from the Mountain Lions doomed the Lady Pioneers comeback attempt.
