SALEM, W.Va. - The Glenville State Men's Basketball team held off Salem tonight to pick up a 77-74 victory on the road. With the W, Head Coach Bob Bolen recorded his 500th career win! The Pioneers shot 45% from the field and knocked down 12 threes while holding the Tigers to a 6-23 (26%) night from behind the arc.
It was a fast start for GSU, holding onto a 19-8 lead just three and a half minutes in. The lead stayed above double digits for most of the opening half and would reach as much as 16 for the Pioneers. Salem was able to hit a basket before the half ended, making it a 41-27 game in favor of the blue and white heading into halftime.
Around six minutes into the second half, Salem brought themselves back into the game with a 12-2 run, trimming the Pioneers lead to just five. However, Glenville State created distance once again, growing the lead back to 13 with nine minutes left in the game. Salem then got as close as one (68-67) but the Pioneers fended off the strong comeback from the Tigers, hitting free throws down the stretch to close out the 77-74 win.
The Final Stats
Jordan Turbo Smith led all scorers with 23 points on 8-11 shooting from the field. Dominiq Penn added 14 points and Devin Collins had 12 points to round out the double-digit scorers. Collins led the rebounding efforts with seven and Smith had six assists to lead the Pioneers.
Kapone Barley and Ian Hardy had 18 points each to lead the Tigers. Khemanni Davis had 14 points and Ashraf Tchadouwa finished the night with a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Brandon Francois had a team leading five assists while adding eight points in the loss.
