SALEM, W.Va. - The Glenville State Women's Basketball team used a strong closing quarter to get back in the win column tonight, defeating Salem 82-78 on the road. GSU knocked down 12 three-pointers and forced 24 turnovers in the victory..
The game started off with the Tigers and Lady Pioneers trading the lead until Salem used an 8-0 run in the final four minutes of the opening quarter to go up 23-17 going into the second stanza. In the 2nd, SU grew their advantage to as much as eight but it would be GSU making a run late in the quarter to grab the lead back, heading to the locker room up 41-40.
Salem opened up the second half on an 11-0 run, building a 10-point lead. The Lady Pioneers used a three-pointer from Makahlia Edwards and a pair of free throws from Kamiyah Lyons to trim the deficit to three (60-57) heading into the fourth quarter. Glenville saved their best quarter of the game for the fourth, allowing the blue and white to regain the lead with just under three minutes left in the game. From there, GSU fended off the Tigers until the final buzzer to close out the 82-78 victory.
The Final Stats
Dream Cherry used four three pointers and an 18-point performance to lead the Lady Pioneers. Hya Haywood (10 points, seven rebounds) and Chalon Miles (10 points, five assists) aided Glenville in the win.
Emerson Wells led all scorers with 20 points while Carine Pinkney and Elena Pericic added 16 points each. Cassandra Smith (13 points) and Liliana Krause (11 points) were also in double figures.
