Men’s Basketball Defeats Regionally Ranked Concord on Senior Day; Take #7 Seed for MEC Tournament

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Men's Basketball team defeated regionally ranked Concord 80-61 on Senior Day to close out the regular season. The Pioneers held the Mountain Lions to 27% from the field and 10% (2-20) from behind the arc in the win. 

After falling behind 11-4 early, GSU put some offense up and took the lead (16-14) with 11 and a half minutes left in the opening half. The two teams went bucket for bucket until the Pioneers used a 10-2 run to go up by seven with three minutes to go. Concord went on a run of their own (8-2) before the end of the half to cut the deficit to just one at 30-29 going into the locker room. 

There were four lead changes in the first two minutes of the second half, however when the Pioneers took the lead back at 34-33, that would be final lead change of the game. The game continued to be a nail biter until the Pioneers went on a 19-3 run that lasted nearly six minutes, allowing them to pull away from the Mountain Lions. GSU built their lead to as much as 21, eventually closing Concord out 80-61. 

The Final Stats 
Devin Collins led all scorers with 18 points while grabbing a team-high eight boards. Trevor Chandler added 14 points with Jordan Turbo Smith (11 points) and DiShon DD Daniels (10 points) reaching double figures. Gus Eddy led the team in assists with four in the win. 

JJ Harper (13 points, 12 rebounds) and Rene Diop (12 points, 10 rebounds) both finished with double doubles for the Mountain Lions. Corey Boston and Jordan Wooden aided with nine points each.  

Up Next For The Pioneers 
With the win, the Pioneers moved up to the #7 seed, setting them up for a matchup with 10th seeded Frostburg State on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
