West Liberty Drains 18 Threes, End Pioneers Season in MEC Quarterfinals

WHEELING, W.Va. - The Glenville State Men's Basketball team had their season come to an end this evening against 2nd seeded West Liberty in the Quarterfinal round of the MEC Tournament, falling to the Hilltoppers 103-82. WLU shot 52% from the field and 56% from behind the arc, nailing 18 three-pointers.

The Pioneers kept up with the fast pace that the Hilltoppers like to play for the first five minutes, however WLU was able to find their groove from behind the arc, quickly building their lead to 32-16 by the under-10 media timeout. Glenville's offense produced points but WLU had an answer for everyone Pioneer bucket, hanging onto a 57-40 lead at the break.

GSU trimmed the deficit to 11 in the first five minutes of the 2nd half, eventually making it a seven-point game (72-65) after a pair of jumpers from Jordan Turbo Smith and Devin Collins. Though the blue and white had the ball with a chance to cut into the WLU lead even more, West Liberty didn't allow them to get any closer for the remainder of the game, recording consecutive stops on defense and drilling three after three. The Hilltoppers would pull away, taking the 103-82 victory.

The Final Stats
Trevor Chandler led the Pioneers with a double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 boards. Rye Gadd (14 points), Jaelin Johnson (13 points) and Devin Collins (12 points) aided the offense. Jordan Turbo Smith dished out eight assists while scoring nine points in the loss.

Zach Rasile had 20 points and went 6-7 from three to lead West Liberty. Five other Hilltoppers were in double figures and hit at least two three-pointers. All-MEC First Team selection Christian Montague scored just four points but pulled down seven rebounds (led team) and had four assists (tied for team lead).
