Men's Basketball Falls to West Virginia State at Home

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Men's Basketball lost a scrappy conference matchup to West Virginia State earlier tonight, 92-82. The Pioneers fall to (9-7, 4-6 MEC).

In a rematch from earlier on in the season that saw the Pioneers lose by three points at WVSU, this game would start out the same in the first half as both teams went back-and-forth. The Yellow Jackets started to create a more comfortable lead after six lead changes, going on a 5-2 run to close out the half and take a 41-32 advantage into the locker room.

In the second half, the Pioneers came out and scored a quick four points to cut their deficit to five. A three from the Yellow Jackets would put a stop to the Pioneers momentum as WVSU gained a lead of 16 with just six minutes left in the final half. A last effort 13-4 run from the Pioneers decreased the Yellow Jackets lead to just seven with three minutes left to play. The Pioneers foul trouble would hurt them late in the game as the Yellow Jackets would close out the victory, 92-82.

The Yellow Jackets were led in scoring tonight by Jae Slack, who had a team-high 20 points. Right behind him in scoring was Jaden Byers, who had 18 points. On the boards, the Yellow Jackets were led by Arthur Cox's 11 rebounds. Along with Nate Mims' 13 points, he led the team in assists with four. On defense, the Yellow Jackets had two players that had two blocks apiece and Cox had two steals in the win.

The Pioneers were led in scoring today by their three freshman standouts. Ammar Maxwell had 19 points, Elijah Redfern had 16 points and Don Colon-Lewis finished with 15 points. Prince Mosengo led the team with eight rebounds and Devin Collins was right behind him with seven. Redfern led the Pioneers in assist tonight with five. On defense, Samier Kinsler led the wayt with three steals and Maxwell led the team with three blocks.

Glenville State welcomes Concord on Saturday (Jan. 25) inside the Waco Center. Tip-off is set for 4 pm.
