Collins Drains Seven Threes as Pioneers Fall Short Against Mountain Lions

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Men's Basketball fell short in an effort to come back from a 21-point deficient as Concord took the 92-85 win tonight in their first matchup of the season. The Pioneers fall to (9-9, 4-7 MEC) as their losing streak reaches three.

In the first half, the Mountain Lions would start the game off on a 7-2 run. The Pioneers fought back to make it a two-point game with twelve minutes left in the half. At the eight-minute mark, GSU finally tied the game back up. The Pioneers and Mountain Lions would go back and forth with neither team able to grab a big lead until a 12-0 run from the Mountain Lions gave them the biggest lead of the half. Glenville State closed the half on a 9-4 run while a buzzer beater three from Ammar Maxwell made it a 46-38 game at the break.

In the second half, Concord quickly turned their eight-point lead into a 21 point lead. The Pioneers, while down big, stayed relentless as they tried to dig themselves out of a hole. GSU started to make things interesting again after going on a 21-5 run to decrease the Mountain Lions lead to only five points with eight minutes left in the half. For the rest of the half, it seemed like every time the Pioneers hit a big shot, Concord would answer right back. However, the Pioneers managed to make their deficient four points with just a minute left in the finial half. GSU had a chance to get closer after a turnover in the back court but a missed three from GSU and made free throws by the Mountain Lions closed out the 92-85 win for CU.
