GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Former Glenville State Men's Golfer Benjamin Fernandez has been on a roll in international golf over the course of the last two weeks. The All-Mountain East Conference and MEC Rookie of the Year captured the 19th Annual South American Amateur Open hosted by the French Sports Club in Santiago, Chile last week. 

He posted a -13 (275) over 72 holes in the win. This event was sponsored by the South American Golf Federation and the R & A. He followed that effort up this week by recording rounds of 69-71-69-74 (-5  283) in the prestigious Latin American Amateur Championship. This event was televised the entire week on ESPN.

Fernandez's WAGR climbed to 193 following the South American Amateur Open and is set to take another jump this week. While representing Glenville State during the 2023-24 season he won three individual tournament titles (West Liberty Invitational, MEC Spring Championship and NCAA Atlantic East Preview).

Fernandez also received the MEC Rookie of the Year Award, MEC First Team All-Conference recognition and was selected to the Ping All American squad following the conclusion of the 2023-24 season.
