Pioneers Win Back-and-Forth Battle with Davis & Elkins

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Men's Basketball team battled to pick up a conference win against Davis & Elkins, 72-65, tonight inside the Waco Center. GSU's record now stands at (8-5, 3-3 MEC) and their win streak extends to four with the victory.

In the first half, Prince Mosengo would get things started with a layup as the Senators answered back the very next possession with a two of their own. The Pioneers lead increased to six just three minutes into the game but a run from the Senators would tie things back up. The Senators took their first lead of the game at the 14-minute mark of the opening half. The Pioneers would lead the rest of the half until thirty-six seconds left where they'd eventually go into the locker room down by one point as the Senators led, 36-35.

Dominiq Penn opened up the second half with a three pointer to give the Pioneers their lead back in the first few minutes of the half. After the Senators tied the game back up, the Pioneers went on a run to increase their lead to eight. The Senators chipped away at the deficit to keep the game within one possession. At the nine-and-a-half-minute mark, the Senators tied it up and started a chain of back-and-forth play with the Pioneers. A big three from Samier Kinsler gave the Pioneers a four-point lead with just two minutes left in the game. The Pioneers made the most of their free throw attempts, giving them the win over the Senators, 72-65.

The Senators were led in scoring by Charleston Ponds' 17 points, followed by Dontrell Jenkins with14 points. On the boards, the Senators were led by Ben Gilliam, who managed to grab eight rebounds in tonight's loss. Jenkins led the team in assists with four. On defense, D&E was led by Nnadozie Okoroji's two steals and three different Senators finished wiht a block apiece.

The Pioneers were led in scoring by Prince Mosengo (15 points), Samier Kinsler (14 points) and Elijah Redfern (14 points). Mosengo not only put in the work offensively, but he also led the team in rebounds with nine and blocks with three. Dominiq Penn, along with his 11 points, led the team in assists and steals with four assists and five steals. Freshman Don Colon-Lewis was the fifth Pioneer to score in double digits with 12 points.

Glenville State travels to West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday (Jan. 11) at the Rockefeller Center. Tip is slated for 4 p.m.
