Lady Pioneers Bounce Back with 83-48 Victory Over Davis & Elkins

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers showcased a strong defensive performance in their 83-48 victory over Davis & Elkins tonight inside the Waco Center. GSU forced 32 turnovers and allowed just 18 field goals in the win.

Scoring was at a premium in the first quarter for Davis & Elkins as GSU jumped out to a 14-0 lead after a Dream Cherry three-point shot. The Lady Pioneers would end the first quarter with a 19-8 advantage. The second quarter started with a mid-range jumper from Nwando Okigbo and a three from Jhakia Gist to push the lead to 16 with GSU ending the half with a 14-point lead.

The third quarter was back-and-forth with baskets from Stevi Yancy, Jade Salters and Asha Spencer, however no team could gain an advantage as the game would be 50-35 at the end of three. The Lady Pioneers controlled the fourth quarter with defense and three-pointers from Dream Cherry, Ashlyn Riley and Dejaan Schuler as GSU pulled away, winning the game by 35, 83-48.

Lachazity Shaver had nine points and five rebounds to lead the Senators while Alexis Smith chipped in six points and four rebounds. Rebecca Kaba and Jewell Harwell both had three points on the evening.

Glenville State
Nwando Okigbo had a huge night leading the Lady Pioneers in both points with 15 and rebounds with 19 while Dream Cherry had 13 points and knocked down three triples. Stevi Yancy had seven points with Ashlyn Riley chiming in six, knocking down two shots from deep. Payton James led the team in assists with five and Jade Salters had six steals.

The Lady Pioneers travel to West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday (Jan. 11). Tip is scheduled for 2 p.m.
